This is the fourteenth chapter of DARLING in the FRANXX.

Plot

Ichigo has never heard of the 9’s before but Goro says Zero Two must be a member since the 9’s is a special unit under APE’s control. Alpha remembers Iota calls herself Zero Two and he finds it egotistical for her to disregard the code name Papa gave her. Alpha asks to speak to the squad leader and he finds it amusing to learn Ichigo is the leader. Angered, Ichigo calls him out for none of the special forces having manners and military achievement is more important for the parasites. Alpha says she has a good opinion but Squad 13 was quickly assembled without preparations and therefore did not get good results, which Ichigo reluctantly confirms. However, Ichigo credits Strelizia for saving them during the last battle and they are still growing and bonding together as rookies. Alpha is impressed with her contempt for losing and kisses her hand, much to her shock and Goro’s dismay. Alpha warns them to stay away from Zero Two because she is a monster who has devoured and discarded more than a hundred stamen. In the bathroom, Zero Two says she smells klaxosaurs and the battle is about to begin. She touches the tumor and says it must be painful but is beautiful. She asks Hiro he can back out of his third ride with her if he wants to. Hiro says he will ride with her and Zero Two smiles and laughs while dancing.

After Alpha leaves to return to the city, Ichigo and Goro discuss the valdity of the rumorus. Goro doesn’t want to believe they are true and Ichigo doesn’t know what to believe. The next day, a ceremony is held for the kissing between the two plantations and the mayor praises the squads. All the parasites enjoy the attention and praise from the adults but Ichigo is secretly worried and doesn’t feel happy because of the big battle approaching. Nana and Hachi look at the monitors and see a horde of klaxosaurs approavcing.
