This is the ninth chapter of DARLING in the FRANXX.

Plot

After Zero Two says everyone will die if she and Hiro are sent to the battle, Hiro begs Nana to let him go. She and Hachi reject his pleas because he is not an official stamen. Zero Two again asks to be sent with Hiro but Nana says she wont let them sortie. Mitsuru offers to pilot because he is the other stamen left but Nana says Strelizia is different than any other FRANXX but he insists. Nana asks Zero Two if she will ride with Mitsuru but she wants only Hiro. Hiro wonders if he failed to connect after being told its not possible for him to pilot and thinks Mitsuru is better off piloting with her. He initially asks her to go with Mitsuru but he then remembers when Naomi said he always ran away. He abruptly declares he will pilot with Zero Two. He tells Mitsuru about her previous partner aging fast and dying after piloting with her but he has not been affected and he knows he can do it. He asks Nana again to let him go. Zero Two asks to go because she and Hiro are hugely compatible. Mitsuru is enraged and says Hiro has already been refused because he’s not an offical stamen.

Miku regains consciousness and Zorome hugs her in relief. Genista and Delphinium are struggling to defend themselves against the klaxosaurs. Hachi reports Strelizia is coming as back up. Ichigo is confused and suddenly remembers her kiss with Hiro, causing her connection with Goro to collapse. As Strelizia prepares to head out, Ichigo demands to know who is piloting it.
