This is the fourth chapter of DARLING in the FRANXX.

Plot

Squad 13 is told by Nana that they will take part in a mock battle with Hiro as ordered by HQ to see if he should be promoted as a stamen. Kokoro is happy for him but Miku and Mitsuru don’t think much about it because of Hiro being considered an elite. Ichigo reminds hem they are in the same squad and their code numbers are irrelevant, much to Miku’s annoyance. Hachi asks Hiro to choose a partner and Zero Two volunteers but Ichigo offers because Zero Two is not part of the squad. Mitsuru asks why she is volunteering when she already has Goro as a partner. Goro doesn’t mind and Nana prefers Ichigo. Zero Two relents and tells Ichigo to take care of her darling. Zorome and Miku volunteer to be their opponents.

At the battle arena, Miku is anger to beat Ichigo, who says this ain’t about winning or losing but to awaken Hiro’s abilities. Ichigo says a stamen and pistil need to form a mental connection to synchronize, although the girls feel the stress of the connection. Hiro and Ichigo successfully connect and the battle is about to begin before their connection begins to sever. Ichigo calls for a three minute time out and she asks Hiro what happened. He doesn’t understand and she asks if Zero Two did anything different before. He mentions she kissed him and Ichigo asks what a kiss is. He embarrassingly explains its when two people put their mouths together. Although embarrassed as well, Ichigo decides to do it too if it will awaken Hiro’s abilities and she asks him to close his eyes. He tries to protest but she says she is fine with it. She then kisses Hiro in the lips.
